Selamat datang ke bumi Galway ^^


Assalamualaikum adik-adik. Ada yang ditawarkan ke National University of Ireland, Galway? Kalau adik ditawarkan ke universiti ini, jangan risau dan cuak! Pengalaman dan pembelajaran di sini sangat menyeronokkan dan menarik.

NUI Galway






Galway, merupakan bandar ketiga terbesar di Ireland selepas Dublin dan Cork. Bandarnya kecil dan cukup mendamaikan. Permandangan semulajadi yang cantik dan tenang di Galway menjadikan NUI Galway, satu tempat yang kondusif untuk belajar dan hidup sebagai pelajar.Malah, Corrib River yang mengalir tenang di kawasan universiti, ditambah pula dengan kehadiran swan putih menjadikan pemandangan di sini cukup mempesonakan. Penduduk-penduduk di sini juga cukup terkenal dengan keramahan mereka terutamanya golongan tua. Begitu juga dengan para pelajar dan pensyarah-pensyarah di sini. Mereka sentiasa bersedia untuk membantu dan menghulurkan pertolongan jika kita memerlukan. Pelajar-pelajar di sini diberikan kemudahan menaiki bas yang disediakan ‘student accommodation’ , atau berjalan kaki untuk ke universiti. Everything is in walking distance in Galway, 
Jika adik-adik mahu merehatkan minda selepas sibuk belajar pada waktu pagi, pantai Salthill yang mendamaikan sedia menanti. Hanya mengambil masa 20-25 minit dari Dunaras dengan berjalan kaki, pantai Salthill tidak pernah menghampakan sesiapa saja yang memandangnya.


Kehidupan pelajar-pelajar di sini juga ringkas dan kos hidup juga rendah. Adik-adik pasti dapat berjimat dan menyimpan wang kerana kos hidup yang rendah di sini. Hubungan sesama pelajar-pelajar Malaysia juga sangat rapat ibarat sebuah keluarga . Jika berjumpa di mana-mana, pasti akan bertegur sapa, atau sekurang-kurangnya bertukar senyuman 

Untuk tahun pertama, semester 1 pengajian , adik2 akan didedahkan kepada subjek:
  1. Anatomy
  2. Physiology
  3. Bichemistry
  4. Pharmacology
  5. Professionalism 1.1
Manakala pada tahun pertama, semester ke-2 pengajian, adik2 akan didedahkan kepada subjek:
  1. Cardiovascular system
  2. Respiratory system
  3. Renal system
  4. Gastrointestinal system
  5. Human nutrition
  6. Professionalism 1.2
Belajar di Galway pula memerlukan adik-adik untuk belajar secara konsisten sejak dari tahun pertama lagi. Ini kerana, markah bagi setiap peperiksaan akan dibawa hingga ke tahun akhir. Pembahagian peratusan mengikut tahun adalah seperti berikut:
Tahun 1=10%
Tahun 2=10%
Tahun 3=20%
Tahun 4=30%
Tahun 5=30%
Oleh itu, adik-adik perlu belajar konsisten dan bersungguh-sungguh sejak tahun pertama lagi untuk memastikan keputusan yang cemerlang apabila mendapat ijazah kelak. Pembelajaran di sini lebih bervariasi dan lebih intergrated. Sejak tahun pertama lagi, adik-adik berpeluang untuk dissect mayat. Setiap minggu adik-adik akan masuk ke dissection room dua kali, 2 jam setiap sesi. Oleh itu, adik-adik akan lebih memahami apa yang adik-adik belajar di dewan kuliah. Namun, mungkin adik-adik akan merasa agak susah pada permulaan untuk mengingati nama-nama bahagian badan, tapi insyaAllah lama-kelamaan, ia akan menjadi lebih senang. Kan, setiap kesulitan tu akan diiringi kesenangan. Ingat janji Allah. Modul pembelajaran pada semester pertama agak padat berbanding semester kedua pada tahun pertama, namun, itu tidak bermakna adik-adik tidak sempat untuk menyertai apa-apa aktiviti yang diadakan di Galway. Insya Allah, banyak aktiviti-aktiviti yang dianjurkan di sini untuk mengeratkan hubungan sesama kita di sini. Pasti pengalaman hidup di sini sangat menyeronokkan.


InsyaAllah, hidup sebagai pelajar di Galway akan menjadikan adik-adik manusia yang lebih baik dan doktor yang hebat. InsyaAllah.

National University Of Ireland, Galway

  • NUIG is the Ireland's top university for student retention- Sunday Times 2011
  •  Ireland's top university for graduate employability with 96% of graduates employed or in further study within six months of graduating.
  • NUIG was awarded QS Five Stars Rating in 2012.
  • International Students comprise 12% of the entire student body at NUIG. NUIG have many years experience welcoming students from countries around the world and have developed a range of support services to help international students adapt to studying and living Ireland.

FACILITIES
  • Study facilities : 
  • The James Hardiman Library is the main University Library and is right at the heart of the campus. We also have a dedicated Medical Library which is located off-campus, in the Clinical Sciences Institute in the nearby University College Hospital.
  • The University Bookshop is located in the basement of the Library Building. Any prescribed texts that you need for your NUI Galway courses will be available here, together with a range of lighter reading material.
  • The Students' Union also operate a year-round online second-hand bookshop on their website.
  • Sport facilities :
  • NUI Galway's new 6,500 sq ft sports complex on the University campus is ideally located for all students as a meeting point for sports activity.
    The complex includes:
    • A six-lane, 25 metre swimming pool, with a moveable floor (international competition standard)
    • Dedicated squash and racquetball courts
    • A National League basketball arena and sports hall with bleacher seating for over 600 spectators
    • A 100-piece cardiovascular gym with 35 pieces of resistance equipment
    • A dedicated elite training gym
    • Two fitness studios, suitable for aerobic training
    • A competition-style climbing wall
    • Saunas and a steam room
  • The are two prayer rooms available; one is located in the main campus and the one in the Clinical Science Institute.


Course
Medicine is the main course of choice among Malaysian Students. Starting from last year, there are about 250 medical students for each batch, with an average of 60 Malaysian students.


Accommodation

There are 10 student accommodations available for NUI Galway students. Most of the years, first year Malaysian students are being placed in Dunaras Village and Atlantis Apartment.
Dunaras Village is situated within 20-25 minutes walking distance from the campus while Atlantis Apartment is less than 10 minutes walking distance. Buses to the campus are provided.
All Malaysian students will move out and rent a house nearer to campus and hospital after a year.


Halal Food
Mediteranean shop (known as 'Pak Mat') and Aroma store are the only two halal stores near to Malaysian community. The price is affordable. Malaysian foods are also available in those stores such as maggi, habhal soy sauce, maggi chilli sauce, milo and etc. Raw ingredients to cook Malaysian foods are also available. These includes green chillies, lemon grass, coconut milk, basmati rice and more.



Where to go for shopping?

Here, many available supermarkets, such as Dunnes located near the student accommodation, thus making it easier for students to buy groceries.

Shop street in Eyre Square are also giving you more choices for shopping, from personal stuffs, to Asian food are also available.

Malaysian Community

There is approximately 150 Malaysians including undergraduates and post graduates.
